Hail Storm in these Parts...

We were so worried about the Goose Family that lives in our backyard.  We knew it was about to start hailing.  We knew they would never come up on our patio OR let us catch them.  So, they decided to stand at attention and wait it out.  Thankfully, none of them were hurt.  I always wondered what they might do in a hail storm.  The just stood there, with their faces to the sky.  They didn't move an inch.  I've never seen anything like it. Fortunately, this was SMALL hail compared to what the rest of the city received.  No damage here.

A Trip Back in Time - The Oklahoma Land Run at the Harn Homestead

We recently had the opportunity to participate in a reenactment of the Land Rush of 1889 - a land run in the unassigned lands of Oklahoma, Indian Territory.  The rush took place in what is now known as Canadian,Cleveland, Kingfisher, Logan, Oklahoma and Payne counties. The land run started at high noon on April 22, 1889, with an estimated 50,000 people lined up for their piece of the available two million acres.  We visited the Harn Homestead - here is a description from their website,

"Step back in time at the Historic Harn Homestead Museum. Learn about the territorial life of Oklahoma. This beautiful outdoor museum is original Land Run property and home to some of the most unique treasures of Oklahoma’s past."
Here are some pictures of our fun!

These are the flags they made to "stake their claims!"

Lining up...waiting for high noon to take off for their land...

10 on 10 May

It's time for May's 10 on 10...where I document my day on the 10th day of the month by taking 10 photos - one per hour for 10 hours!!  Sounds fun, right???  I really enjoy it.  For this 10th, half of our day was filled with a homeschool track meet - Olympic Day.  My two oldest daughters participated and we had a LOT of fun!

Want to see other 10 on 10's?  Or learn how to participate?  Then go here...
